Types of Medicare Benefits
Part A
(Hospital Insurance)
Original Medicare: Helps cover inpatient care in hospitals, skilled nursing facility care, hospice care, and home health care.
Part B
(Medical Insurance)
Original Medicare helps cover services from doctors and other healthcare providers, outpatient care, home health care, and durable medical equipment like wheelchairs, walkers, and hospital beds. It also includes many preventive services, such as screenings, vaccinations, and yearly “Wellness” visits.
Part C
(Medicare Advantage)
Part D
(Drug Coverage)
Medicare Pard D covers the cost of prescription drugs, including many recommended vaccines or shots. You can enroll in a Medicare drug plan alongside Original Medicare, or get drug coverage by joining a Medicare Advantage Plan. These plans are provided by private insurance companies that adhere to Medicare’s regulations.
Medicare Supplemental Insurance
(Medigap)
Additional insurance, available for purchase from private companies, helps cover your share of costs under Original Medicare. These policies are standardized and typically identified by letters (A-D, F, G, and K-N) in most states. Although the benefits provided by each lettered plan are the same regardless of the insurer, the cost can differ between companies.
